오늘은 3월인데도 꽤 추웠고, 비까지 추적추적 내렸다. 그렇다. 3월이라고는 하나 학교의 3월은 대개 이런 식이다. 5년 전 이맘때엔 폭설 때문에 버스가 기숙사까지 올라가지 못한 적도 있었다. 입학식 날이었고, 술자리가 늦게 파해서 가까스로 막차를 잡아탄 건데 말이다. 그 때 나는 기숙사 삼거리 비탈길에서 결국 넘어졌고, 한동안 엉덩이에는 시퍼런 멍이 입학 기념 선물마냥 남아있었다. 아무튼 3월이라고는 하나 아직 본격적인 봄은 요원하다.
그래도 이 잠깐동안의 시간이 지나면 우리는 여름도 오고 가을도 오고 겨울도 오고 다시 봄이 온다는 것을 안다. 그 당연한 사실이 요즘엔 꽤나 매력적이고 흥미롭게 느껴져서 다행이고 세상은 참 재미난 곳이다, 라는 생각이 들면서 내일은 무슨 일이 일어날까 은근히 기대도 하게 되는 것이 또한 다행이다. 그리고 당시엔 별 재미가 없었다 하더라도 시간이 흐르고 나중에 그것들을 돌이켜 보면 그 재미없던 것들조차 재미있게 느껴지는 때가 온다는 것도 다행이다. 덕분에 나는 이제 이 노래를 한밤중에 혼자 들으면서도 아무렇지 않게 느낄 수 있게 되었고 이 노래가 생각날 때마다 이 나쁜새끼야, 하고 혼잣말을 하지 않아도 되게 되었다(그리고 사람은 미워하되 노래를 미워할 필요는 사실 없는 것이다). 이게 다 - 시간이 나고 계절이 가면서 봄이 오고 여름이 오고 가을이 오고 겨울이 오는 덕분이다. 참 다행이다.
